Global Impact Study at ICTD 2012

Many of the Global Impact Study research partners will be attending ICTD 2012 in Atlanta in March. In addition to TASCHA staff members, representatives from our survey implementation teams from Bangladesh, Brazil, Chile, Ghana, and the Philippines will attend, as will some of the principal investigators of our in-depth studies. Components of the Global Impact Study will be highlighted in two open sessions and one poster presentation.

Who uses public access ICTs? First survey working paper released

Who uses public access ICTs? With the release of the first survey working paper, Public access to ICTs: Sculpting the profile of users, the Global Impact Study offers insight into who the users of public access ICTs are. Written by George Sciadas, with input from Hil Lyons, Chris Rothschild, and Araba Sey, this working paper results from data analysis of the user surveys in Bangladesh, Brazil, Chile, Ghana, and the Philippines.

Training and orientation in Ghana

Global Impact Study research lead, Araba Sey, just spent one week in Ghana for a training exercise with STEPRI, the implementation team for our inventory and survey activities in Ghana. In addition to learning about the overall project structure and research design, participants discussed the inventory data collection process, and practiced administering the survey instruments.

Global Impact Study welcomes Ghana

The Global Impact Study is pleased to announce that we have added Ghana as the fifth country to the user, venue, and non-user surveys and the sixth country for inventory data collection. The country research team will be led by Godfred Frempong of the Science and Technology Policy Research Institute (STEPRI). The surveys and inventory activities in Ghana over the next year will expand the geographical representation of the Global Impact Study by including a country in Africa.

Collaborative Knowledge Sharing study presents at Singapore conference

This past summer, Mike Best, the Principal Investigator of the Collaborative Knowledge Sharing in-depth study, presented a paper at the 19th annual Asia Media Information and Communication Centre (AMIC) conference in Singapore. The paper, written on preliminary findings from Mike's in-depth study, Connecting in Real Space: How People Share Knowledge and Technologies in Cybercafés, was very well-received and prompted vigorous discussion with conference attendees, earning "best paper of the session" accolades.
